To take the same concept and bring it a bit closer to home, most of what we publish on the Moz Blog is an example of the same kind of top-of-funnel marketing. We don't publish blog posts to convince people they should buy our products. We publish them because we want people to level-up their skills and be better marketers. Our hope is that by participating in our community and reading our blog posts, if you ever find yourself in need of tools for your digital marketing efforts, that we'll be top-of-mind as a reliable choice, just as Theo is top-of-mind for many Seattleites (and now you) when seeking chocolate.
Besbris saw things the same way: “The trend in the industry at the time was the simple way of solving these problems, where you guaranteed that you could control the experience … but that comes at the cost of the web.” So Google’s solution was AMP, a framework that was designed to make the web as good as those platforms so that the web would actually have a shot at competing with Apple and Facebook.

The idea of the funnel is that your pool of potential customers grows smaller as it moves toward its first transaction with your business. At the top of the funnel, there are a great many people who will become aware of your brand (often seen as the first step in the conversion process). The middle of the funnel is smaller, as there are fewer people who'll actually consider paying you for your products or services, and the bottom of the funnel is even smaller, as many of the folks who consider paying you will end up deciding not to. Your mission as a marketer is to make that funnel as solid (and cylindrical) as possible, guiding potential customers toward eventual conversion.
Your sales funnel is healthy if you have enough prospects going through it. If you’re moving enough prospects through the funnel with the experiences and interactions you create and if you are able to profitably convert enough prospects into paying customers, your sales funnel is healthy. See our article on Sales Metrics – 17 Reports That Improve Your Sales Pipeline Performance to help measure your sales funnel health.
Whether you’re remarketing your content or a specific time-sensitive sale offer, remarketing is arguably the single most effective way to increase sales online. Not only does remarketing keep your brand at the forefront of prospects’ minds, it also provides would-be customers with numerous additional opportunities to convert. Given the often-fractured customer journey, which now usually takes place across at least a day or two and several devices, remarketing also closely aligns with how today’s consumers prefer to shop – which is wherever and whenever they choose.
One quick word of caution, though. With every piece of content you create and every stage of your funnel, you’re generating data. Though all of it is useful to your sales process in some way, it’s easy to get bogged down in data and metrics tracking instead of focusing on the few key performance indicators (KPIs) that will actually give you the information needed to make meaningful improvements.

A marketing qualified lead (MQL) is a prospective customer who has demonstrated a particular level of engagement that leads the marketing team to conclude that real sales potential exists. The level of complexity involved in this assessment will vary based on the resources available to the team. Norman, for example, might conclude that anybody who fills out his online demonstration request form is an MQL. A company that’s using a marketing automation program might be able to set the bar to MQL qualification at something involving a combination of viewing specific pages, interacting with certain forms, and opening a certain number of email messages.
Regardless of what Google’s engineers think, outside of Mountain View, AMP is associated much more strongly with Google than it is with the web — even though it’s been adopted by Bing, Twitter, Baidu, and others. Part of the problem is that AMP was Google’s reaction to Facebook and Apple, so it fell into the easy thought bucket of “proprietary article formats.” But most of it is that Google is huge and has pushed AMP in a big way with its biggest product: search. Publishers that support AMP show up in Google’s top stories carousel, which means a flood of traffic. It’s a huge incentive to support AMP.
The Solution: I work with them to be able to go the places they want, to go to a restaurant without getting completely overwhelmed with panic. I help them be able to live a life not ruled by fear. I will meet them where they are whether it is their home, at my office, online (secure video conferencing and telephone), or out in the community (go to a restaurant together, go driving, etc.).
Google’s goal is to extend support in features like the Top Stories carousel to AMP-like content that (1) meets a set of performance and user experience criteria and (2) implements a set of new web standards. Some of the proposed standards in the critical path are Feature Policy, Web Packaging, iframe promotion, Performance Timeline, and Paint Timing.
The role of marketers here is to educate the website/business owners on the importance of removing friction through the sales funnel. This can be done only if you lead your first-time visitor through the funnel correctly by providing them with content that’s well-matched with their awareness about the problem they might not even know they have at this level.
With the release of PHP 7 came huge performance gains! So big in fact, that it should be a priority over a lot of the small optimizations you might play around with on your WordPress site. The following benchmarks demonstrate significant performance improvements with PHP 7 over its previous iterations. PHP 7 allows the system to execute twice as many requests per second in comparison with the PHP 5.6, at almost half of the latency.
It’s been four years since I joined Unbounce’s mobile responsive beta at the Call to Action Conference, and later tomorrow I’ll be taking to the stage at CTAConf 2018 to share that we’ve entered closed beta for AMP in Unbounce. You’ll soon be able to create AMP landing pages in the same simple, pixel-perfect, drag and drop builder that you know and love. We hope you’re as excited as we are.
Whether your industry is highly competitive or not, there is always another option to buy something from somebody else. What can your products do that others in the same price bracket cannot? What support does your company offer its customers? Do you provide free delivery where your competitors don’t? Is your price lower than your competitors? These could all be factors influencing your customer’s choice to stick with you or go for a similar product from another brand.
When launching an opt-in offer, be sure to test every element for maximum optimization. Test the phrasing of the copy, the position at which it appears on your site, and the flow that visitors are directed through the process. A/B test different offers and see which ones yield a greater volume of sign-ups. Consider having the pop-up be triggered by a site exit so visitors see it just before they're about the leave the page. The more people that sign up for your newsletter or loyalty program, the more potential sales you can make in the future.
A sales funnel reflects the prospect’s journey or path that takes them from awareness to customer. It encompasses actions you take to create this journey or experience. Pipeline stages are the stages of opportunities or deals. They reflect the sales process from the salesperson’s perspective. See our article, 8 Sales Pipeline Stages Every Sales Team Should Have.
Database performance is critical for websites maintaining dynamic content pulled from back-end databases. A mechanism should be in place to detect and alert for inaccuracies in data transmission. Keeping an eye on free disk space on servers hosting websites locally helps avoid errors and data losses that lead to broken links and eventually degrade website performance.
In a recent conversation I had with Perry Belcher, co-founder of Native Commerce Media, he told me that you also need to train your prospects to click on links. For example, you could have them click on a link of what interests them or link them to a blog post or eventually to a product or service that you're selling, but you need to train them to build a habit of clicking on those links from the very beginning.
Optimization is the buzzword of success in the cyber world. Cyberspace, like the real physical world of planets, stars and galaxies is itself in flux – a state of continuous change and evolution. In fact, change is the only consistent process across both the real and the cyber world. Survival in these spaces depends on how well the inhabitants can adapt to varying resources and environmental circumstances.
For one of my startups I’m launching, I’m solving the problem of drunk driving. There are systems in place that are not working. My company, The Bar Car, is an Uber-like car service whose focus is reducing drunk driving. One thing that sets us apart from a taxi or Uber, is out ability to get your vehicle home for you. I’m starting first in Wisconsin, and I plan to franchise nationwide in college towns and smaller, underserved markets.
GTmetrix allows you to test and compare website performance against various connection types to see how it affects your page load speed. It offers a connection throttling feature to simulate the possible types of internet connections your site visitors might be using: Cable, DSL, 3G mobile, 2G mobile, and 56K dial-up. You can also select Chrome or Firefox as a possible browser.
While service and product quality apparently has the biggest impact on business sales, converting website visitors into purchasing customers in the cyber world largely depends on developing a positive customer impression. And this is where ecommerce website performance parameters such as ultra-fast page speed and rapid check-out processes come into play, ultimately giving customers a positive psychological impression encouraging sales and customer loyalty.
To move a prospect through the stages of a buying cycle, you’ll need to create different content designed to satisfy their needs at each of the three stages. You’ll also have to remove all the steps on this journey that could cause friction by understanding your audience and providing them with answers in the form of well-matched content, before they even ask their questions.
Leaders are retiring at alarming rates. Many of them are paralyzed in their ability to address the topic of succession planning. It’s not that they want to inflict damage to the organizations they love by transitioning poorly. It’s that many have no frame of reference for what a healthy succession COULD look like in their context. Consequently, fear sets in and causes organizational paralyses.
Page speed, in particular, fills the void in enhancing marketability by improving website user experience to keep impatient online customers engaged and satisfied. A recent research report published by O’Reilly concludes improvements in website end-user experience by reducing page load time boost sales and conversion rates significantly. The staggering statistics are as follows:
Brand management is so important that Reputations Corporation, a Vancouver-based consultancy group, reports that 72 percent of consumers say reputation influences their buying decisions; 80 percent of employees will accept less pay to work with a company with an excellent reputation; while another 89 percent say reputation is a tiebreaker between equal products. Whether you're trying to influence key decision makers or attract and retain top talent, you'll want to consider the following tips on managing your company's brand.
Konrath, a globally recognized sales consultant and speaker, knew she needed help, but found that advice aimed at typical workers didn't work for her—or for others who needed to sell for a living. Salespeople need their own productivity guidelines adapted to the fast-paced, always-on sales world. So Konrath experimented relentlessly to discover the best time-savers and sales hacks in order to deliver the first productivity guide specifically for sales success.
The marketing funnel is a conceptualization of the steps describing the sales process from start to finish. The term funnel is used to represent the path your audience takes to a buy, with some leaving this trail, deciding not to buy, and others continuing all the way to the checkout. The funnel reflects the narrowing of your potential leads down to the most promising ones over this journey.
Email addresses, especially relevant ones, are one of the most powerful resources in digital marketing. Not only do you know what your target audience is interested in, now you have a way to follow up with them with whatever content works best with your audience — newsletters, special offers, educational piecesm or anything else. The sky’s the limit.
I’ve got 2 audiences – the check-signer (business owner or senior manager) and the end-user of my product. I know which problem the product solves for the check-signer as it repeatedly shows up in the testimonials I receive from them. A completely different solution shows up in the testimonials from the end-user. In marketing collateral that goes to the check-signer, I can easily talk directly to them about their perceived problem. But both the end-user and check-signer visit the website. Who do I talk to from there? (The check-signer’s perception of a problem is almost always very different than the end-user’s.)
Fast forward to today, I now have a professional video team for my videos, and even though they cost about $1,000 per video to produce, I can still give them away each week because I’ve got a system in place that generates sales. I can also happily hire expert web designers, professional photographers, developers, and more, all because I have the balance sheet to support it.
I feel your enthusiasm and passion, but I’m confused. As someone suffering from lack of Online Traffic, it’s not clear to me that you actually get my problem. I’m so confused, I need you to help me figure out my problem – to be specific, so I can say, “Aha! That’s what it’s all about!” Then, I need you to explain to me how exactly you are going to solve my problem in succinct easy to follow terms. For someone like me, general terms are overwhelming.

Yesterday I was in the Northridge Mall while my tires were being rotated at Firestone outside. When I walked in there a man was promoting Occulus, the 3D experience. . . for $5 a journey. I didn’t have any bucks so I declined. I was wondering why he didn’t use the email model of a free gift to get a subscriber; I mean a free trip using the mind altering adventure. Then I got to thinking about video and 3D in email, and it dawned on me the cycle of a company’s promotion is a like a trip into virtual reality–at least it could be a mind-altering experience for the recipient, especially for someone who’s tired of getting ads, ads, ads.
Considering the high volume of internet traffic using mobile devices for ecommerce purchases, high-performing mobile websites is an evident priority for ecommerce organizations. A recent research study reveals ecommerce businesses could miss out on millions of mobile shoppers with the potential aggregate revenue per conversion of mobile shoppers averaging around 80 percent of the same among desktop users purchasing online.
If you're wondering what a sales funnel is, simply imagine a real-world funnel. At the top of that funnel, some substance is poured in, which filters down towards one finite destination. In sales, something similar occurs. At the top, lots of visitors arrive who may enter your funnel. However, unlike the real-world funnel, not all who enter the sales funnel will reemerge out from the other end.
In a blog post today, Google is announcing that it’s formally embarking on a project to convince the group in charge of web standards to adopt technology inspired by its Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) framework. In theory, it would mean that virtually any webpage could gain the same benefits as AMP: near-instantaneous loading, distribution on multiple platforms, and (critically) more prominent placement on Google properties.
