Sales teams are almost always urged to qualify leads before fully pursuing them. Qualifying leads accurately in this stage establishes an effective sales process. Reps use the BANT technique to determine if leads have the budget, need, authority and timeline to purchase. The next steps are going to probably involve a process that, at my most optimistic, I would guess will take months — more likely it will be years. Various standards bodies have to hash out proposals, try them out, and agree to them. And it’s not just the W3C body that standardizes the web, either. The Web Packaging technology that allows webpages to work offline and be redistributed may actually need to be agreed upon by another body.

The marketing funnel is a visualization for understanding the process of turning leads into customers, as understood from a marketing (and sales) perspective. The idea is that, like a funnel, marketers cast a broad net to capture as many leads as possible, and then slowly nurture prospective customers through the purchasing decision, narrowing down these candidates in each stage of the funnel.
Once the prospective customer is made aware of the product, it’s the duty of a marketer to nurture the lead by arousing his interest in buying the product and make him consider it over other products. This involves marketer to tap several other channels, improve its public relation strategies, and include affiliates and partners who promote the product.
In addition to using your sales funnel for strategic planning, you can use CRM software like Pipedrive to help you save time and focus on moving more customers to the end of your sales funnel with automation tools and activity reminders. For instance, the Smart Contact Data feature can decrease prospect research time and email templates can save time spent on drafting emails from scratch.
But let’s say that you want at least 100 people to purchase from your sales funnel. You can work backwards to see how many people you need at each point along the funnel. If you want 100 sales, you would need 250 people to end up on your landing page (100 divided by 0.40). In order to get 250 people on your landing, your social media ad needs to target 1,250 consumers (250 divided by 0.20).
An increasingly common practice for marketing, sales, and customer service and experience managers is to “flip the funnel” into a customer experience funnel. This funnel outlines the process of turning customers into advocates, which in turn refuels the top of the marketing funnel by driving awareness and lead generation. Most likely, your customer is now at a point of decision. It’s your job to offer them something so valuable they’re compelled to take action right now. One way to do this is through a webinar that ends with a call-to-action. Let’s say your webinar is about “How to Get in Shape.” At the end of the webinar, you might offer a low introductory price for a membership to your online fitness classes. You might also create sales pages or sales emails. How you do this is up to you. The point is to continue offering amazing content to your customers. And, of course, to close the deal with a sale.

Overall, when DOM ready times throughout a visit were slower, people bounced more. Our research found that bounced sessions had DOM ready times that were 55% slower than nonbounced sessions. We also noticed that bounce rates were even higher if the first page in the visit had a significantly slower DOM ready time than the remaining pages. This tells us that first impressions matter: If people's initial experience visiting a site is slow, they're more likely to bounce later. That initial interaction seems to color people's perception of the site and decrease their willingness to be patient throughout the transaction process.
