Website performance overhaul with optimization tools and script tweaks can scrape off sizeable chunks from page load times, but perhaps not as effectively as developing a speed optimized website from scratch. And the latter is more of a marketing strategy, a business decision and slight awareness in avoiding the most common mistakes that can potentially ruin online businesses by killing website performance.
One of the first things you should do if your conversion rates look low is to examine your attribution models and conversion pathways in Analytics. You may be surprised to find that parts of your marketing strategy that seem like conversion duds actually have a big influence on your online sales. DEFINITELY. I know a blog that’s better than a therapist. In fact, I told my therapist that the blog was better than she was (lol. I do still see the therapist though — she’s good, just not as good!). The blog talks about a specific trauma that I’m going through, and the blogger speaks truth about the situation — MY situation — in a way that nobody else ever has, not even my therapist. Bloggers can be straightforward in a way that therapists can’t. Your therapist is supposed to help YOU figure out what to do, which can take YEARS. A blogger can say, Hey, stranger on the internet, DO THIS NOW. That’s really powerful.

Social Media: Some people don’t check their email often and rarely engage with commercial emails that they receive. But many of those people also have social media accounts. Offer follow buttons for all your social media accounts on your order confirmation page. Also, provide them in all your emails. Tell customers what following you will get them – whether it is exclusive weekly content about how best to use your products or monthly competitions, exclusive to social media.

Google is not blind: it knows that other companies aren’t likely to up and adopt AMP as a universal solution to fixing the web. Although Ubl will happily tout how many non-Googlers contribute to AMP code, at the end of the day, he works at Google and is the BDFL (Benevolent Dictator For Life) on the AMP project. The new standards — many of which are already in development — seem like they would be genuinely good for the web. But just as importantly, they’re genuinely more likely to get adopted by competing companies if they’re seen as fundamental new web technologies and not just a Google project.
