If you’re running an accounting business, at this stage, your customers would be evaluating different potential service providers. They might need resources like pricing guides (so they know what ballpark rates are), how to evaluate the landscape of accounting services (i.e. whether to hire a solo accountant, an agency, etc), or how to choose an accountant.

QUOTE: “[Google is] announcing that starting in July 2018, page speed will be a ranking factor for mobile searches. The “Speed Update,” as we’re calling it, will only affect pages that deliver the slowest experience to users and will only affect a small percentage of queries. It applies the same standard to all pages, regardless of the technology used to build the page. The intent of the search query is still a very strong signal, so a slow page may still rank highly if it has great, relevant content.” Google 2018

Hey Matt! Thanks for this article, it was super helpful! I tried to scroll through some of the comments, but figured I should just shoot you a message. There weren’t a ton of B2C examples in your list and was hoping you had some more up your sleeve. I just launched my company, Make It Hapin, and I’m living on a prayer haha. My finances are limited so my ability to pay for ads in order to test possible funnels is very limited but I’m trying. Make It Hapin is a personalized shopping service designed to help you recreate inspiration images you see on Pinterest and Instagram. The struggle is figuring out a way to get people to remember us while they’re swiping through their feeds. Anyway, I’ve included my website…I’d love it if you could take a look!
Solution: Online training video course that teaches acupuncturists a simple 7-step system that I used with my own acupuncture practice to accelerate it to a 6-figure business in less then 3 years. They learn how to start up a business, market, patient care, mindset, taking insurance, practitioner confidence, etc. If they take action on these 7 steps they will become a happy acupuncturist with a successful practice.
The marketing funnel concept can impact your business to generate sales in a controlled system. The funnel attracts prospects by consumer psychology, on-line incentives, social networking or other marketing mix. Prospects are drawn through the funnel under various stages of relationship development and brand awareness. The marketing concept turns prospects to a target audience to generate a sale.
The strategies used to gather information tend to vary based on the size and scope of the purchase. Recognizing that you’re hungry, for example, might result in a quick Yelp search for restaurants in your area. Deciding which provider to use to place a new in-ground pool at your home might involve calling around, reading company reviews online, visiting showrooms, and talking with salespeople.
The next steps are going to probably involve a process that, at my most optimistic, I would guess will take months — more likely it will be years. Various standards bodies have to hash out proposals, try them out, and agree to them. And it’s not just the W3C body that standardizes the web, either. The Web Packaging technology that allows webpages to work offline and be redistributed may actually need to be agreed upon by another body.

When you offer giveaways or discounts, it naturally attracts prospects and encourages them to buy your product or services. If your customers love your products or services, they won’t hesitate to talk about your brand and promote it. To reward such loyal customers, you can give them attractive offers such as a VIP discount or a membership to the top tier of your rewards program.
For example, if you’re selling an eBook, you could offer a free chapter in exchange for their email address. Submitting their email is a low barrier to entry, and they’ll receive a lot of value in return. From there, you can use their email to push them deeper into the sales funnel, especially since they have already shown interest in your product.
QUOTE: “It’s clear from our test that the speed of our website affects both of these revenue streams, over the short term, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds, and in the long-term millions. The speed of the site negatively impacts a user’s session depth, no matter how small the delay. Slow sites also have a detrimental effect on the number of articles people read. Largely, the slower the site, the greater the effect. The data suggests, both in terms of user experience and financial impact, that there are clear and highly valued benefits in making the site even faster. From this research we’ve chosen to invest even more time in making every aspect of the new FT.com website even faster over the coming months.” FORBES

As a general rule of thumb, larger files take longer to download than smaller files. Web page download time, also known as the Page Load Time depends on the total size of content assets being downloaded from hosting servers to the requesting browser. High-quality bulky images are the largest contributors to web page size, degrading page speed and agitating visitors eagerly waiting for the web page to load.

Depending on a browser's cache settings, it may send a request with the If-Modified-Since header for each referenced file, asking whether the file has been modified since the last time it was downloaded. Too much time spent querying the last modified time of the referenced files can delay the initial display of the web page, since the browser must check the modification time for each of these files, before rendering the page.

Because everyone else is doing it, to start with. Competition for the mobile space is intense and back in 2014, the Yahoo CEO labeled it as the “tipping point” for the internet. And she was right! Stone Temple pulled some statistics from Similar Web in 2017 and not to our surprise, but mobile accounted for over 50% of the traffic based on 77 billion website visits.
Regardless of what Google’s engineers think, outside of Mountain View, AMP is associated much more strongly with Google than it is with the web — even though it’s been adopted by Bing, Twitter, Baidu, and others. Part of the problem is that AMP was Google’s reaction to Facebook and Apple, so it fell into the easy thought bucket of “proprietary article formats.” But most of it is that Google is huge and has pushed AMP in a big way with its biggest product: search. Publishers that support AMP show up in Google’s top stories carousel, which means a flood of traffic. It’s a huge incentive to support AMP.
A rigorous approach toward designing speed optimized website would incorporate a strong intent on eliminating unnecessary bytes from the code. Utilizing all the coding space available, deleting extra spaces, indentation and line spaces while maintaining readability of the code reduces the overall size of website core and front-end files. And for websites already developed without this strategy in perspective, combining multiple server requests (for HTML, JavaScript, and CSS) into single ones effectively slashes sizeable chunks from page load times.
The absolute critical principle in maximizing website performance is to focus on page speed optimization from the ground up. Performance optimization plugins, server-side scripts, and final tweaks have minimal – however noticeable – impact on page speed and load times. Yet, Web developers and online business owners tend to overlook page load times in their website development and design strategies.

It works because it’s simple. The CTA is clear. The design is trustworthy. In addition, the visibility of the signup button remains across all the pages, both at the bottom and the top of the landing pages. That’s a best practice. It also works because visually, they show you exactly what you’ll be getting when you sign up. There are screenshots of the application and not a lot of text. Mint is very benefits-focused.

I have my big problem to solve and I have the solutions but I don’t know how to let people know I can solve them. I’m a hair stylist so I can aproch a lot of problems from form to color or hair care or styling products. I like to find there needs and wants and educate my clients but I have a hard time reaching new ones. How do I aproch someone about there problem so I can offer the solution?
Think about that the next time you're building out a sales funnel. This complex and intricate concept in business can literally take you from a complete unknown to a global powerhouse quickly through the art of scaling out a highly-converting offer. Don't try to take shortcuts or implement hacks, and put in the time if you're looking to eventually reap the benefits and results.

You must know by now that the sales funnel defies gravity. Not every lead who enters your funnel finds their way to the bottom. Sometimes, even all the qualified leads don’t reach the bottom of the funnel. This can be due to the negligence of sales reps to engage with the lead, or simply because the lead is not ready to take the next step. It’s important for sales reps not to perceive a qualified lead leaving the funnel at any point as a lost opportunity. CRM helps you win back lost opportunities through lead nurturing.

I’ve lost the spark and am sleep walking through life. I wake up, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch TV, and go to sleep, then wake up and do it all over again. I have a nice car, live in a good neighborhood and am a foodie–who am I to complain? But I’m thirty pounds over weight, and my mind is my enemy. I want more energy and focus. I’ve lost connection with myself and those around me. I’m a hamster chained to a wheel, but I don’t know to escape this box I’ve put myself in.
Kahneman covers a number of experiments which purport to highlight the differences between these two thought systems and how they arrive at different results even given the same inputs. Terms and concepts include coherence, attention, laziness, association, jumping to conclusions, WYSIATI (What you see is all there is), and how one forms judgments. The System 1 vs. System 2 debate dives into the reasoning or lack thereof for human decision making, with big implications for many areas including law and market research.[5]
Hi Matt, a really great article which pulls out many strengths. I’m a wedding photographer and I’m researching new ways to funnel visitors by their current; challenges, position in planning their wedding and then addressing short term buyers vs longer cycle buyers who are researching etc. Do you have any advice or examples which could be useful even if a different industry? Thanks Pete
If you don’t mind a bit of unsolicited feedback, Angie….as an overwhelmed business owner myself, you’ve described me quite well but I’m not believing that you’re going to be able to help me solve that problem because you haven’t given me anything about HOW you do that. Not even a hint :-). All I’m thinking is, “I’m not THAT much of an idiot…I know what I need to do. But who’s going to ______ and _____ and ______ while I take time to figure it all out?!”
The second section offers explanations for why humans struggle to think statistically. It begins by documenting a variety of situations in which we either arrive at binary decisions or fail to precisely associate reasonable probabilities with outcomes. Kahneman explains this phenomenon using the theory of heuristics. Kahneman and Tversky originally covered this topic in their landmark 1974 article titled Judgment under Uncertainty: Heuristics and Biases.[6]

Of course, if you're going the paid ad route, you could also use Facebook and Google re-targeting to keep that awareness and interest level high. For example, if you've ever noticed after leaving a particular website, that you begin to see their ad everywhere, there's a particular reason for that. Especially if they've already entered your sales funnel, this is a very powerful way to get them to act.
Here's the cool thing about content marketing: Despite a misconception that it's always a top-of-funnel tactic, content marketing can help reach people at any stage of the funnel, and as those people continue their interactions with your organization, it helps widen the neck of the funnel farther down. And because content is all the words and pictures on (and off of) your site, you have a lot of options to tailor your content marketing message to where your audience is in that funnel. There are four major stages of content marketing, which we thought we'd show in relation to something very familiar—coffee:

At this point, Norman has a great marketing campaign outlined. But in order for it to be truly effective, he needs to take things one step further by determining how leads will be qualified throughout the process. Adding in this extra element will allow him to better utilize his salespeople by bringing them into the sales process only when qualified prospective customers are identified.
Email marketing is still a very viable method of digital marketing and produces one of the top ROI across all marketing methods. However, you can’t do any email marketing without email addresses, right? By creating methods to capture a visitor’s email address, you create an opportunity to invite them back to your website through email marketing campaigns.

Self-help is a giant niche and getting bigger. Would it be easier if you described exactly who you helped best? Then your ideal audience would see themselves more quickly, like: We help single women ages 30 to 40, who work 50+ hour weeks, try to get to the gym, volunteer their time and have a social life. And don’t have time/budget to get to a therapist.

One important warning: Let’s not forget that you are in business. And as a business owner you have something of value to offer your customers in exchange for their cash. That’s a fair and equitable relationship. So please don’t take my nurturing metaphor too far here. Your goal isn’t simply to placate your list — your goal is to build a profitable business that provides VALUE in exchange for VALUE.

Workflow automation tools can help you manage prospects through a sales funnel by helping you complete repetitive tasks in your sales process that are triggered by certain actions. For instance, in the Awareness stage, you may want your prospect to feel important after you’ve first met, so you send a “Nice to Meet You” email. You can automate this task in your CRM. For email template ideas, see our article on Sales Email Templates.

Solution: I provide custom and personalised (not cookie clutter) keyword reports of the very best keywords for your niche – those keywords you can rank for. These are the keywords that will allow you to rank high in Google and make you the most money. These reports help people find their best clients by finding the best search terms/keywords they can use in blog posts, sales page, web pages etc to attract their ideal clients. This includes detailed advice on how to use them and the potential profitability of each keyword.
Hey Sashka. I think a lot of people get a company’s brand confused with its visual identity. I think it would be helpful to your solution to offer branding exercises and workshops to help the company clarify who they are and how they communicate with their customers, and then providing the “visual identity” that is the logo and any packages that come along with it. It’s easy for clients to think that a logo is synonymous with a brand, and it is our duty to educate them on what their brand truly is and how it can reinforce engagement with their own customers and clients.
Do everything in your power to increase the loading speed of your mobile site. Everyone loves a fast site: we SEOs and search engines, but most importantly, our customers. Firstly, check Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool to see what they advise you to do. Secondly, take a look at the size of your page, as many sites are bloated nowadays. Try to shave off as much as you can by optimizing images, compressing code and loading fewer external scripts and ads. In addition to that, here are five things you can work on:

If you use background images a lot in your CSS, you can reduce the number of HTTP lookups needed by combining the images into one, known as an image sprite. Then you just apply the same image each time you need it for a background and adjust the x/y coordinates appropriately. This technique works best with elements that will have limited dimensions, and will not work for every use of a background image. However, the fewer HTTP requests and single image caching can help reduce page-load time.
I mentioned earlier that the sales funnel goes beyond the first purchase. You don’t want customers to buy once and then forget about you. You want them to buy again and become long-term customers who are loyal to your brand. You want them to recommend you to other people – both online and offline – who might also be interested in what you have to offer.

Because the prospect’s awareness and expectations change. Each stage of a buying cycle has a specific set of questions your prospects will usually ask as they ascend through the stages. Providing them with answers to these questions in the right moment will actually remove friction in their decision making process and, consequently, increase your conversion rate.

That was an interesting article. I was looking on your page of scheduled webinars, and what about offering a webinar on segmenting your list? It seems that to use the marketing funnel idea you need to segment subscribers, so you’re not sending new subscribers something that should go to your “Advocates”. I’d love to see a webinar that really goes over how to use the funnel & segmenting together. Thanks.
It’s important to note that there is not a single agreed upon version of the funnel; some have many “stages” while others have few, with different names and actions taken by the business and consumer for each. In the diagram below, we’ve done our best to pull out the most common and relevant funnel stages, terms, and actions so this information is useful to as many marketers as possible.
He is the co-founder of Neil Patel Digital. The Wall Street Journal calls him a top influencer on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies. Neil is a New York Times bestselling author and was recognized as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama and a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 35 by the United Nations.
I feel your enthusiasm and passion, but I’m confused. As someone suffering from lack of Online Traffic, it’s not clear to me that you actually get my problem. I’m so confused, I need you to help me figure out my problem – to be specific, so I can say, “Aha! That’s what it’s all about!” Then, I need you to explain to me how exactly you are going to solve my problem in succinct easy to follow terms. For someone like me, general terms are overwhelming.
But say you’re evaluating marketing automation programs to help improve the sales funnel you’re creating. Because these programs can require investments of $1,500 a month, you’re likely to undergo a much more careful and thorough evaluation process. You might request free trials of the different systems you’re considering, have online demonstrations with each company’s representatives or view training videos to get a feel for how each system will perform.
As an author who does a little bit of coaching as well, I can say that a lot of people write the book and then start asking two questions: ‘Should I use CreateSpace/Kindle or should I self-publish?”. You might be surprised at how many people write a complete book without having any idea of the big picture, especially of how to market or that being an author means you are a small biz owner in 2014.
Problem: NP’s notoriously fall prey to paying what are often exorbitant fees for online auction services, often from 15% – 50% of their auction proceeds (problem #1, the charitable cause ends up with less than 100% of their auction revenues) . Worse, these fees are really paid by their auction winners (the source of the auction proceeds), but the money is siphoned off the winners’ bids without their knowledge or consent. If bidders new this, they would likely be upset at best, or feel alienated, at worst (problem #2).
As you can see, each color-coded piece of the funnel pictured above roughly corresponds to stages 2-4 in the buying process. The widest tier at the top of the funnel represents “awareness,” the point at which potential customers are beginning their information search. The second tier is “consideration,” roughly corresponding to the evaluation of alternatives described in the purchase process above. And finally, the third tier, “decision,” is self-explanatory.

Google has indicated site speed (and as a result, page speed) is one of the signals used by its algorithm to rank pages. And research has shown that Google might be specifically measuring time to first byte as when it considers page speed. In addition, a slow page speed means that search engines can crawl fewer pages using their allocated crawl budget, and this could negatively affect your indexation.
